Scene 4 - Page 27

  • The stage is split

  • The lights go on Nya with the color of warm light Omari with white color light

  • Nya 

    • Wearing

      • A purple dress

    • with a chalkboard

    • On the chalkboard is the poem name

    • With a table in front with nothing on it

    • Nya is sitting at the table at the beginning

    • We start the scene while Nya is talking to her students - act natural

    • Then as begins to start talk about the poem

    • The chalkboard and are taken away

    • She continues to speak

    • Once the chalkboard and table are back on she sits back on the table like nothing happened

    • Talk as natural as possible

  • Omari

    • Wearing

      • Royal blue shirt with black pants

    • With nothing on his side

    • With each quick line of the poem he moves to express the emotion of the line

    • Once the chalkboard and table are off we merge the light and make Omari continue the movements around Nya

    • At the very end, the chalkboard is brought back on with the table

    • Movement is only made when say line

Theme 

  • Is the similarity of how Nya and Omari have but how they still are so different

  • The emotion behind Nya’s words is expressed by Omari

  • The small number of pauses

Movement Performance

  This project we did theater caused me to have a lot of emotions. After watching The Things I Know be True, we got to find song lyrics that connected to the emotions in the play. I just liked this because I love music and instead of finding random quotes I felt passionate about finding the right song. The big theme was about change in the play. When I thought about songs about change one song came to my head, Change by Jayden Bartels. Jaden Bartels has been my inspiration for a while now. I love this song because I get to hear her talk about how change is different and hard to deal with, I truly felt not alone in the same situation. She also expresses that change is ok in the end, which is meaningful for me. I knew to give off the same theme as the play so I chose the perfect part to do my movements performance to. Reflection to "You Are Not Okay"

     Our final piece was interesting. I personally imagined our piece in a different way. I liked the meaning we were trying to portray. As a person with a few mental health differences, it was nice to do a skit about something I have experienced. Since I could really imagine our skit myself,  I tend to be bossy and stubborn to a point that I don’t like it when my idea is not heard. I thought that it would be interesting to actually be circling the person in the middle and either at the same time or individually ask “are you ok?” while still being in the circle. I personally believe that going on the platforms made no sense. If we did go on the platform to show that the person in the middle feels that they are small in the world, they should also be tiny. I thought as the shortest person in the group it made more sense that it was me in the middle. I truly think that way the thought that they are a small part of the world can truly come to life.  - interesting about how we got to watch Nya make her first voicemail then re-record it to show her real feelings with her stating her emotions - I am confused about the beating in the script, what is it? - punctuation is repeated - connection between O and Nya through white board is interesting - poem equal symbolism - slang used often - confused by slash - powerful in relationship between parents and children and. How parents lives become kids baggage. - this is very impactful and moving - how they tended to have two scene at once and have cross over each other shows a lot of importance
