Notes on TIKTBT

Information:

  • Issues of each character have been building up for a long time and yet when Rosey came back everything came out

    • Bob- Made Fran pregnant so she would stay

    • Fran - Has lost love for Bob and liked someone else a while before

    • Pip - Has found love in someone else who is even married and lives in Vancouver and is going to leave her husband and children to go to Vancouver

    • Mark - Wants to become a woman and leaves to move away to Sydney and has felt this way for 20 years

    • Ben - Has been stealing money for about a year

  • Rosey was there every time her siblings told her parents showing how she is in between everything

  • Bob and Fran’s love is probably not real and only exist because they love how their partner loves their children

  • Garden was the sign that seasons change

  • Rosey in her last monologue mentions how the things she knows to be true is that seasons change and never stop

  • The loss of their mother show how in the end everyone in the family still is who they are at the beginning no matter the changes that occurred

Symbolism through movement:

  • In the first scene where everyone is introduced and the family is talking in the kitchen, the table moved every time someone walked into the kitchen to show the perspective of each person

  • The characters raise Rosey to show that Rosey is seeing the world without being able to change it - She was there during these events in her family.

  • The parents dance with a spotlight on them to show they feel like they are the only people in the world - Even while they were dancing the family members show they were on the mother's mind

  • In Rosey’s monologue at the beginning, when she introduces each person in the family, they show their relationship through touch

  • The rose, in the end, was her past and her future the first rose's petals were broken off which showed the past is over and the future is still in the future

  • The father at the end underdressed and lied in the garden to show how he is broken and so has his hope and happiness which is the rose bushes which he also pulled up and threw them

  • Garden represents change

  • The play is a full loop of how in the beginning we see Bob in pajamas with the phone ringing and in the end, we see everything that leads up to that moment

  • Fran’s money on the side represents the life she wanted without her family
